This Technical Facility was a result of collaboration between Jacobs Engineering Group, an international technical professional services firm and Group Seven Architects.
Mondelez International is a global snacking brand, owning brands such as Cadbury, Dairy Milk and Milka Chocolate. Their new technical center in Thane, is focused on developing technologies for consumer service, packaging and productivity, complementing their multiple products.
Spread over 2 levels with a part service floor, the plan for the technical center combines offices and research within a single envelope.
At the ground level, the Labs have been pushed to the rear, creating a forecourt within a double height space. This threshold leads up to the primary areas of the facility - while also connecting sensory booths (for product tasting) as well as a cafe with its adjoining terrace at the first level.
The Alignment of the layout along the north - south axis presents an opportunity for drawing daylight from the north. Wide light slots with tapered silhouettes staggered over 3 levels form a distinct vocabulary along the facades. These accents of a triangular geometry are also continued along the east and west facades, screening off all service areas.
The offices at the first level are designed along the lines of an 'open plan', incorporating the concept of a 'Town Hall', fostering collaboration amongst its employees.
